Sail in a transatlantic adventure: first vessel entries published
The first round of vessels registered
to take part in the Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta have now been published and many more are
expected over the coming months.
This historic 7,000 nautical mile event marks the 150th
anniversary of the Canadian confederation.
Visiting five countries, the event offers everyone the chance to sail onboard one of the sail training ships taking part in the wake of the
great explorers. There are different options for taking part. Race in a
single leg between two countries, pick one of two opportunities to cross the
Atlantic, enjoy a shorter cruise on the St. Lawrence River as part of our Guest
Port Programme – or even sail in the entire event. There is an adventure out here for everyone
and it’ sure to be a once in a lifetime opportunity.
An anticipated 5,000 people will be able to take part in this unique event, challenging themselves at sea on board up to 40 Tall Ships from around the world. As the event is spread over five months in total you can pick your part of
the adventure by time and budget.
Positions are primarily aimed at young people aged 15 – 25 years old,
but all ages and all abilities are also welcomed – with no previous sailing experience necessary!
Starting in Royal Greenwich in the UK in April 2017 ships
will race to Portugal (Sines), Bermuda (Hamilton), USA (Boston), Canada (Quebec City) and have the opportunity to
explore the beautiful Canadian maritime provinces before racing back across the
North Atlantic to finish in Le Havre, France in September 2017.
The first batch of vessels to have entered include a cross
section of Classes and nationalities and offer sailing opportunities on a
variety of legs – from Class A’ Oosterschelde
(Netherlands) and Pelican of London (UK) to
Class B Maybe (UK) and Class D Tomidi (Belgium) – all are looking for
trainees to sail with them. The full list

Even if life on board isn’t for you, the port festivals during the
event will present millions of visitors from around the world with an
unrivalled spectacle and free family festivities to enjoy.
