Race report one: fast start before light winds
Following yesterday’ (Tuesday 9 June) good start the winds
have become light to moderate force 3 – 4 north east/east north east for the
fleet of the Baltic Tall Ships Regatta 2015.
Light winds are particularly favourable for the smaller vessels who made
good progress through the night and leading Class D vessels are almost certainly flying spinnakers to optimise their speed in the light tail winds with many now already north of Gydnia, Poland.
It’ been a more challenging
race for the larger vessels and all three Class A vessels are enjoying a closely fought battle on the water, which looks set to continue as the winds become
even lighter into tomorrow (Wednesday 10 June).
Positions were noted by the race committee at 0600 today,
which then showed Dar Szczecina (Poland) as first overall and first in Class C (on corrected time) –
but it is still anyone’ race and more accurate positions of the vessels at
time of reading this report can be seen on the ships satellite tracking system Yellow Brick – which is updated every quarter of an hour.
Photos from the event, including the Race Start, can be seen on Facebook here or visit the Klaipeda Tall Ships Regatta website here.
