Hey ho, let’s go: Bergen pulls off fantastic crew activities
Crews from The Tall Ships Races 2014 fleet started their first full day in Bergen, Norway with inter-ship sports and games, followed by a colourful and noisy crew parade.
Many of the trainees found their land legs in an individually timed challenge up a steep hill, the äóìStoltzekleiven Upäó. The 910 metre long stairway race had a 313 metre ascent and approximately 720 steps. It’s recognised as one of the toughest things can athlete can undertake. There were then lots of inter-ship activities including tug-of-war, football, basketball, beach volleyball, table tennis, cycling, knot making and rowing in traditional viking boats.
Later in the afternoon crews dressed up and took part in the traditional, noisy crew parade from Festplassen to Haakonshallen, followed by a prize giving ceremony and shanty singing.
