Russian vessels win five awards

Russian vessels won five awards in the SCF Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta in Novorossiysk, Russia today (Saturday 10 May).

The prize giving for Race One of the SCF Black Sea Regatta took place this evening and many crew members and trainees had reason to celebrate.   After a tough race from Varna, Bulgaria, with extremes of wind conditions throughout, the winners certainly deserved their awards.  

Prior to the ceremony, the multi-cultural crew paraded through the streets around the port of Novorossiysk led by a band of drummers and watched by many delighted onlookers.   The twenty one different nationalities amongst the fleet crew represented from Romania, Russia, Spain, Belarus, Slovenia, Czechoslovakia, Turkey, Latvia, Bulgaria, France, Poland, Pakistan, Saudi, Germany, Ukraine, Belgium, Netherlands, Estonia, Finland and Great Britain.

The prizes awarded were as follows:

Special prizes donated for Race 1

Best Class A Ship in the Crew Parade, donated by Sovcomflot – Royal Helena (Bulgaria)

Best Class B,C or D vessel in the Crew Parade, donated by Southstream – Pure Haney (Russia)

Ship with the youngest class A Captain, donated by Transneft – Capt Delyan Radev, Kaliakra (Bulgaria)

Ship with youngest average age crew as a percentage, donated by Sochi Marine Club – Sea Adventure (Bulgaria)

Ship making best contribution to sports activities, donated by the city of Novorossiysk – Mircea (Romania)
