Goodbye to La Spezia

October 7, 2013

La Spezia has been a wonderful host port and the fleet will be sad to leave today.  But sail away they must – as much as the crews enjoy the festivities in port, these ships were built to sail and they will all now go on to do just that.  Some are heading further south for the winter months, others are heading back to their home ports, and some are going to be slowly making their way to the Black Sea in readiness for the Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta next spring.

Undocking begins at 10.00hrs local, and the Parade of Sail will commence at approximately 11:30hrs local, taking a route to the south towards Cinque Terre (Five Lands).

What is sail training?

Sail Training is an adventure activity, which includes far more than sailing instruction. Participants are required to confront demanding challenges, both physical and emotional. It is an activity that inspires self-confidence and personal responsibility. It promotes an acceptance of others, whatever their social or cultural backgrounds, and develops a willingness to take controlled risks. Those who undertake Sail Training on Tall Ships generally find it a positive life-changing experience.
