Toulon Crew Parade and Prize Giving

Tens of thousands of people lined the streets of Toulon this afternoon as the crew parade made its colourful and noisy way along the  Avenue de la Republique to Place d’Armes where the prize giving then took place. Spectators were standing several people deep awaiting the procession as well as watching from balconies and other vantage points.

At the prize giving the crews assembled and were addressed by Chair of the Race Committee, Chris Bickert, Race Director Mike Bowles, chairman of the Regatta Steering Group, Admiral Gerard Gachott and Hubert Falco, President of TPM.  Prizes were awarded in the following categories:

Class A

1st  Mir (Russia)

2nd  Royal Helena (Bulgaria)

3rd  La Grace (Czech Republic)

Class B

1st  Pandora (Italy)

2nd  Johanna Lucretia (UK)

3rd  Ciutat de Badalona (Spain)

Class C

1st  Femme Fatale (Hungary)

2nd  Spirit of Oysterhaven (Ireland)

3rd  Galaxie (Spain)

Class D

1st Miles to Go (Belgium)

2nd  Akela (Russia)

3rd  Moondance of Carrick (Ireland)

1st Crew in the Sports Tournament: Kruzenschtern (Russia)

Communications prize (donated by Sail Training International): Bodrum (Turkey)

Most International Crew:  Gulden Leeuw (Netherlands)

Best Crew in Crew Parade (Class A): Pogoria (Poland)

Best Crew in Crew Parade (Class B,C,D): Tartessos (Spain)

Youngest Captain in Race One:  Patrick Townsley (aged 23) Moondance of Carrick

Youngest Average Age Crew: La Recouvrance (France)

Line Honours: Akela (Russia)

1st overall on correct time:  Mir (Russia)

This evening the trainees will enjoy themselves at the crew party, which includes a dance competition.
