Second leg, race 1 evening update, Istanbul to Varna
Light winds are affecting competitors trying to reach the finish line off Varna.
In order to guarantee that the fleet is all into Varna by 0900hrs UTC tomorrow morning, the Race Committee have decided to bring forward the Race Time Limit. The new Race Time Limit will be 2100 hrs UTC this evening for Class A and B. The original time limit was 0100 UTC tomorrow morning.
Some of those to have finished already include Tecla, Netherlands (Class B) who is currently first in class and first overall on corrected time. Akela, Russia (Class D) is first in class and second overall, while Mythos, Greece (Class C) is first in class and third overall.
In Class A, Tenacious currently leads her class on corrected time, with Shabab Oman, Oman second, and Mir, Russia third.
The crew aboard Christianna V that finished this afternoon has been busy clearing up down below. Trainee Sebastian Blasiak – one of six Polish crew aboard this Greek vessel (Class C) – commenting as he stepped ashore this afternoon said: äóìWe had a slow start off Istanbul but the wind increased to 23kts which created a big sea. Now we’re ashore our first job is to clear up down below because a lot of our stores became dislodged during the rough sea. Nothing’ broken but it’ just really untidy.äó
The following ships are now in port: Adonis, Akela, Bodrum, Christianna V, Hansa, Mati, Mythos, Tecla.
