Biography
IRIS formerly called GEEJE van URK. IRIS was built in 1916 as a fine example of the last generation of sailing luggers. She fished for herring on The North Sea up to the Shetlands Isles.
In 1929 she received her first engine and was converted into a commercial trading vessel. Than based in Denmark she sailed for 40 years on the Baltic Sea.
Her restoration was finished in the spring of 1981. She sailed again under Dutch flag for the second time in her life.
In 2007 the company name changed to Zeillogger IRIS VOF and Ben Bos and Marianne Bos de Bakker becam her new owners.
From her homeport Rotterdam IRIS cruises all over NW Europe. She offers sailing holidays, day sails, corporate events and is a regular guest at the major maritime festivals.
The traditional appearance and historical importance of the ship are perfectly balanced with the modern demands of comfort and safety. IRIS is a fast comfortable ship, exceptionally seaworthy, and it certainly deserves its name. As the goddess of the rainbow, IRIS can guarantee that you will have colourful moments at sea.
