Provisional results of the third and final race of the SCF Black Sea Regatta are now available. Due to the light headwinds hampering progress the race time limit was brought forward to 05:00 UTC (08:00 local) today (Wednesday 28 September) in order that the fleet will be able to motorsail into Varna (Bulgaria) in time for the start of the celebrations, with the official opening ceremony taking place on Saturday 1 October at 13:00hrs (local).
Sail Training International has a unique system for such race finishes, which enables all non-retired ships in the racing fleet to obtain a placing, based on their exact position at the time limit.
Notable Results
Russian Bermudan sloop Akela has achieved line honours for a third time in the Regatta, on this occasion being closest to the finish line at the time limit. Romanian staysail schooner Adornate finished an excellent second overall, with their bold strategy to sail south from Sochi paying off. Another notable result is Russian ship Nadezhda, (pictured approaching the start line off Sochi) who finished second in Class A with her revised rig and TCF (time correction factor) following damage sustained to her foremast in Race Two (Novorossiysk to Sochi).

The provisional results follow and are subject to change. They remain provisional until all ships are in port and have handed in their declaration forms which are then inspected by the Race Committee.

Class B/C
Atyla (Vanuatu) has retired.
Arial (Russia) is accompanying the fleet but not racing.
Sail Training International Race Chairman Robin Snouck Hurgronje said “We had hoped and expected for another good long race and we regret very much having to bring the time limit forward. Unfortunately, the wind is beyond our control! However, we very much look forward to greeting the ships as they arrive into Varna on Friday and Saturday, where a very warm welcome is guaranteed.”
