About

Biography

Jadran is a sailing school ship built for the Yugoslav Navy.  Her name means “Adriatic”, and most of the ship’s training voyages are undertaken in the Mediterranean.  She was commandeered during World War II by Italy and sailed as MARCO POLO.  She was then used as a floating bridge in one of the canals in Venice.  After the war she was returned to Yugoslavia where she underwent major refurbishment.  Further reconstruction was undertaken in the mid 1950s and again in the 1960s when she was almost completely rebuilt.  Today she is operated by the Navy of Montenegro.
