Jan van der Burg has been stationed in a number of locations throughout his impressive naval career and held various seagoing commands. Jan was promoted to commodore in 2002 in the position of chief naval staff for Plans and Policy. In 2005 he became rear-admiral, at the start of his posting as the Deputy Director-General of the EU Military staff in Brussels. From 2008 until 2014, as vice-admiral, he carried the responsibility for a major reorganisation of the Dutch armed forces and the ministry of defence.
With a personal motto of ‘always brace for change’ being evident across Jan’s past, his skills include coaching, policy development, governance process, project management and financial planning. Following retirement, Jan is still very much active with the private and public sectors where he is consulting across various fields. He is fluent in Dutch, English,German and French.
