Tall Ships Races International Ltd, a subsidiary of Sail Training International, and the Host Ports of The Tall Ships Races 2021 announce that Mariehamn have withdrawn as a Host Port of The Tall Ships Races 2021.
We make this announcement with great regret, but recognise the difficulties posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing travel restrictions affecting different countries in and around the Baltic Sea area.
Following this decision by Mariehamn, and the withdrawal of Turku, we are now in discussion with the remaining Host Ports of Klaipeda, Tallinn and Szczecin to decide upon the best way to accommodate these changes to The Tall Ships Races 2021.
An update regarding these discussions and any alternative arrangements will be made in the coming days.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the organising team in Mariehamn for their tireless efforts planning this event over the last three years. We eagerly look forward to welcoming them back as a Host Port in the future and wish them well as they host their local maritime folk festival in place of The Tall Ships Races 2021 between 22-25 July.
As we move closer to the start of the races, we will continue to monitor the travel restriction in the remaining Host Port countries to ensure all aspects of The Tall Ships Races 2021 are completed in the safest way for trainees, vessel operators and visitors alike.
We strongly recommend vessels to continue to review the COVID-19 regulations and restrictions currently in place in the Baltic countries so that they are aware of any restrictions which are in place prior to their arrival.
The thoughts of everyone at Tall Ships Races International Ltd and the organising parties of Klaipeda, Tallinn and Szczecin are with everyone affected by COVID-19 in these difficult times.
