Sail Training International launches NEW Card Game to celebrate 70th Milestone
In celebration of 70 years of The Tall Ships Races, we are delighted to announce the launch of Windjammer, with all profits going towards funding sail training bursaries for young people.
Windjammer is an exciting new game of tall ship racing, designed for quick and easy play on the go. Each game is unique, featuring a varying sailing course, treacherous obstacles and is infinitely expandable for prolonged play.
What began as a conversation about how young people could stay engaged with sail training during the off-season, between voyages, or even in periods of downtime while at sea, soon grew into something more. It was in that discussion that the seed of what would become Windjammer was first planted.
Murray Henstock, Windjammer Co-Creator comments, “This game has been 10 years in the making, born from the collaboration between myself and Max Mudie – two like-minded sailing enthusiasts with boundless imaginations and a shared passion for designing, crafting, and bringing models and prototypes to life.
During this phase, what became apparent was the way in which the game; similarly, to sail training brought people from diverse countries and backgrounds together around a table to share a common interest. Sail trainers began commenting on how the game could be used as a tool to help young crew understand basic ship movement and suggested the game could be used to generate interest off the ship, or as a way to remember their voyage after leaving the ship.”
The aim of the game is simple. To sail your way from the starting line to the finish line and avoid the obstacles along the way. Players need to use the wind direction and basic sail configurations, to determine how many places the ship needs to move during their turn. The idea is to help players get used to the concept of the interaction between wind direction, ship heading, sail plans and the subsequent effect on ship movement.”
This game embodies everything that Sail Training International stands for. It celebrates bringing people together, regardless of ethnicity, background and religion, to share experiences, learn from one another, and ultimately have fun along the way.
Above all, every game makes a difference. By playing, you help share knowledge and create meaningful experiences. By purchasing a copy, you contribute to funding sailing bursaries for young people, as profits are reinvested into the future of underprivileged young people from all around the world.
Copies of Windjammer can be purchased online and retails at £21.
£3.75 from each game sold will go directly towards sail training bursaries for young people.
