Race report five: intense battles for winning positions

July 11, 2015

Frederyk Chopin (Poland) is the first Class A to finish the first race leg of the Tall Ships Races 2015.  But in all other classes there is an intense battle to reach the finish line and secure winning positions.

Paul Bishop, Race Director, Sail Training International reports.

äóìFryderyk Chopin (Poland) crossed the finish line at 16:03 UTC yesterday to

be the first Class A ship to finish race one. The wind in the finish area has

since gone to an unfavourable south easterly making progress challenging for

those behind her.  Christian Radich (Norway) is closing Sorlandet (Norway) from the south in

the final stages which could see a close finish between these Norwegian

ships. Statsraad Lehmkuhl (Norway) has further to tack upwind to the line so is

unlikely to close the gap at this stage.

“The battle in Class B

between Rupel (Belgium) and Wyvern (Norway) has intensified overnight and Rupel

is just 200 metres off Wyvern’ stern with around 30 miles to go. Jol
