News from the cruise: Life looks good on board Statsraad Lehmkuhl
The international fleet of 63 Tall Ships taking part in The Tall Ships Races 2014 is now enjoying a Cruise in Company to Bergen. Norway following their departure from Fredrikstad on Tuesday 15 July.
Their deadline for arrival into Bergen is Thursday 24 July and over the next week they will be sailing together and visiting the many ports who have made provision for the fleet during this time.
A Cruise-in-Company is time for the fleet to meet up in different ports and develop international friendships and understanding between the crews by enjoying activities together.
Ports who are welcoming the fleet to visit 15-19 July are Kragero, Arendal and Kristiansand.
From 18-19 July Skudeneshavn, the home of sailing clippers, at the extreme southern tip of Karmoy, offers olde-world charm, history and sports activities.
From 19-23 Leirvik harbour will be the perfect refueling port with full crew facilities and a big barbecue.
Bekkjarvik fishery village is the port of choice from 20-23 July and finally Strusshamn, from 21-24 July, has laid on a three-day event for the visiting crews including concerts, hiking and more.
Class A Norwegian vessel Statsraad Lehmkuhl is currently at Kristiansand, the capital of Southern Norway and the country’ fifth largest city.
Following a 126 nautical mile journey from Fredrikstad the crew is now enjoying walks through the charming old town and visits to the former naval base at Odderoya, which is now a recreation area. Action photos of their journey so far can be seen on Facebook here
