Start port announced for Rendez-vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta Quebec – Canada

June 26, 2014

It’s less than 36 months before the start of Rendez-vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta Quebec – Canada and Sail Training International (STI) has achieved another milestone towards finalising the official host ports involved in this prestigious race series in six different countries: England, Portugal, Bermuda, USA, Canada and France.

We are delighted to announce that Royal Greenwich is the start port in April 2017 for the Rendez-vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta Quebec – Canada.

This Tall Ships Regatta is the signature event of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation and it’s significant to have an English host port for the event to commemorate the historical links with Canada.

STI is delighted to be working with Royal Greenwich because of their experience in organising world class events such as the London 2012 Olympics, the official race start of the Tour de France 2007, and of course the Falmouth-Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Regatta in September 2014.

Quebec City is the main host port in Canada and will host the Tall Ships on 18 – 23 July 2017. STI is working closely with the city, represented by its Mayor Mr Rí©gis Labeaume and the local organising body Le Rendez-vous naval de Quí©bec. Quebec City is equally pleased to have Royal Greenwich as the start port of the Rendez-vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta.

This is an important event for the people of Canada and over twenty guest ports will be involved in the Gulf of St Lawrence to welcome the participating vessels and provide stop-overs during the cruises-in-company to celebrate 2017.

Franí_oise Pinget, Rendez-vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta Quebec – Canada Project Coordinator, STl said, “The crews will have a fantastic time and be part of a very special event. It is a unique experience for young people to enjoy some amazing cultural exchanges and learn to cope with various challenges whilst on board a tall ship, and particularly if crossing the Atlantic Ocean.

“To date 24 vessels have registered an interest to participate in the event, representing 12 nations and nine Class A vessels. This is all very exciting and as far as we are concerned the countdown has already started, so watch this space!”
