Fantastic final SCF Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta prize giving

The crew parade and final prize giving of the SCF Black Sea Regatta has taken place in Constanta, Romania today (Sunday 25 May).

After a busy morning of sports competitions, the crews of the SCF Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta fleet this afternoon paraded through the port and into town to the Archaelogical Park in Constanta, Romania for the final prize giving ceremony of the month-long event.

There to present the awards was Robin Snouck Hurgronje, Race Chairman, Sail Training international,; Rear Admiral Chitac, Commander of the Naval Academy and Mr Comanescu, President of GSP Offshore.

Prizes were awarded as follows:

Special prizes donated by Constanta Organising Committee

Best Class A ship in crew parade – Mircea (Romania)

Best Class B, C vessel in crew parade – Akela (Russia)

Ship making best contribution to sports activities – Nadezhda (Russia)

Ship that has sailed the greatest distance during the race series – Sedov (Russia)

Vessel showing greatest determination during the race series – Atyla (Netherlands)

Class prizes for Race 2, donated by Sail Training International

Class A

1st on corrected time –  Royal Helena (Bulgaria)

2nd on corrected time –  Nadezhda (Russia)

3rd on corrected time –  Mir (Russia)

Class B

1st on corrected time –  Johanna Lucretia (UK)

2nd on corrected time –  Bodrum (Turkey)

3rd on corrected time –  Adornate (Romania)

Class C

1st on corrected time – Akela (Russia)

2nd on corrected time – Sea Adventure (Bulgaria)

Sail Training International Communications Prize for Race 2 – Royal Helena (Bulgaria)

Best use of Social Media during the regatta – Dora Elena Simion, second year student of marine engineering on Mircea

Special Sail Training International Award

Having contributed significantly to the success of the Regatta by their whole-hearted participation, as the communications vessel for both races and also as start ship for Race 2 – Running on Waves (Malta)

Line honours

First vessel to cross the finish line in Race 2 – elapsed time of three days, nine hours, 25 minutes and 29 seconds – Akela (Russia)

Series Trophy for Class C – Akela (Russia)

Series Trophy for Class B – Johanna Lucretia (UK)

Sail Training International SCF Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta Friendship Trophy

awarded to the ship which, in the opinion of the captains and crews of all the ships taking part in the SCF Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta series, has done most to promote international friendship and understanding.

Winner: Atyla (Netherlands)
