Rain doesn’t stop play at the Lycamobile Mediterranean Tall Ships Regatta

Despite heavy downpours this afternoon, after three weeks of glorious weather, the final crew parade and prize giving took place this evening in La Spezia.  The pavements became a sea of umbrellas as the crews made their way through the town, singing and dancing as they went.  

They finally came to a halt at the square outside the port building which has been used as the crew centre and race offices for the final prize giving of the Regatta.  The prizes were presented by the mayor of La Spezia, Mr Frederig Massimo, and the Race Chairman, Mr Chris Bickert.  

After the ceremony the crews returned to their ships to dry off before returning to the square for the crew party, where they will be celebrating their success and toasting the end of what has been a fabulous regatta.

1st overall on corrected time: La Grace

Best crew in crew parade: Class A – Amerigo Vespucci (Italy)

Best crew in crew parade: Class B/C/D – Atyla (Russia)

Most international crew in Race 2: Gulden Leeuw (Netherlands)

Youngest average age crew in Race 2: Pandora (21.37 years)

(awarded to the vessel, that in the opinion of the other captains and crews, have contributed most towards international friendship and understanding during the Lycamobile Mediterranean Tall Ships Regatta 2013.
