Spectacular finale to the festival

July 23, 2010

The quaysides were packed all day today as people took advantage of the beautiful weather and the chance to visit the ships before they leave tomorrow.  Sporting activities were provided for the crews, including dragon boat racing, which proved very popular and is exciting to watch as well as to participate in.

Amongst the new trainees arriving today were 100 from in and around Aalborg, sponsored by local companies and arranged by the city (pic). They have divided between eleven vessels in the fleet and this evening will be receiving their first briefings and finding their way around their new home.

The captains and navigators of the fleet met earlier to be briefed on arrangements for the Parade of Sail tomorrow (Saturday) which is scheduled to start at 1300hrs.  This evening there will be a spectacular firework display from the bridge close to the ships, which promises to bring the event to a stunning close.

The City of Aalborg has been a wonderful host and the fleet will be sad to leave.
