Fireworks at the Tall Ships Races, 2011, Aalborg

Goodbye Aalborg, until next time..

July 24, 2010

By the end of today it is expected that at least 700,000 people will have visited the Tall Ships Races fleet in the port of Aalborg over the last four days.  Callers to the local radio station have been full of praise for the event which has brought drama, history, excitement (and much noise) to the area.

Henrick Jensen, head of security for the event, said “It was a pleasure to have the crews here, who were all extremely well behaved”.

A spectacular firework display brought the festivities to an end last night, set off from the bridge and watched by nearly 300,000 people on the quaysides, decks and on a huge flotilla of local boats anchored in the river.

The fleet say their goodbyes this afternoon in the traditional Parade of Sail, with the first ships undocking at 13:00hrs.
