On the water, one of the largest and one of the smallest ships in the fleet – Akela and Mir – both from St Petersberg, Russia – are virtually neck and neck. However on corrected time, the positions are as follows:
1st La Grace (Czech Republic) – pictured at the start
2nd Mir (Russia)
3rd Royal Helena (Bulgaria)
1st Pandora (Italy)
2nd Johanna Lucretia (UK)
3rd Ciutat Badelona (Spain)
1st Galaxie (Spain)
2nd Femme Fatale (Hungary)
3rd Spirit of Oysterhaven (Ireland)
1st Akela (Russia)
2nd Moon Dance of Carrick (Ireland)
3rd Vityaz (Russia)
The finish line extends five miles from the Cap Sicie light, south of Toulon and some vessels are due to cross it within the next twelve hours though at the time of writing Akela is just five miles from the finish.

What is sail training?
Sail Training is an adventure activity, which includes far more than sailing instruction. Participants are required to confront demanding challenges, both physical and emotional. It is an activity that inspires self-confidence and personal responsibility. It promotes an acceptance of others, whatever their social or cultural backgrounds, and develops a willingness to take controlled risks. Those who undertake Sail Training on Tall Ships generally find it a positive life-changing experience.
