World leaders recognise SCF Far East Tall Ships crews

Leaders from China, Japan, South Korea, Russia and Mongolia presented awards to the teams taking part in the SCF Far East Tall Ships Regatta 2018 at a special ceremony held during the 4th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok on Wednesday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin presented the Captain of Nadezhda (Russia), Sergey Vorobyev, with the award for finishing the 600 nautical mile race from Yeosu in South Korea to Vladivostok in Russia’s Far East in first place in Class A.

Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe, President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga and Prime Minister of South KoreaLee Nak-yeon also attended the awards ceremony, with each leader presenting awards to regatta winners in various categories.

The SCF Far East Tall Ships Regatta is taking place under a 2018–2020 programme to hold major international Tall Ships events in Russia, drafted by the Russian Ministry of Transport, Sovcomflot, Sail Training International and the Russian Sail Training Association.

Earlier there was a spectacular Crew Parade along the waterfront in Vladivostok where the crew of Bima Suci (Indonesia) entertained the crowds with traditional music and dancing from their south-east Asian nation. Afterwards the following awards were presented at the Prize Giving Ceremony:
