Chairman of Trustees: Sail Training International
Sail Training International is the charity that organises the worldwide Tall Ships Races and Regattas. We are the international voice of sail training.
Every year, we create thousands of life-changing experiences for young and disadvantaged people through adventurous voyages under sail, learning to work with others in the unyielding environment of the sea. In our host ports, we create a sense of wonder for millions of spectators who come to the gathering of the most magnificent sailing ships in the world.
Our members are the national sail training organisations of almost thirty countries. Between them, almost 600 vessels have registered with us in the last five years alone. The first Tall Ships Race in 1956 was expected to be the last gathering of great sail: instead it opened a new era and we are now working on inspirational events out to 2017.
We are looking for a new Chairman of Trustees to succeed Nigel Rowe, who since 2003 has led this growing charity. The Chairman will provide leadership to Sail Training International, working with the Board and the CEO. S/he will support and sustain the work of the charity and provide governance leadership and strategic support for innovation and fundraising.
The job/person description can be viewed here.
The role is unremunerated except for administrative support, travel and out-of-pocket expenses.
