Most of fleet finishes Leg 1, Race One

May 15, 2010

After nearly two days at sea all but Dewaruci have crossed the finish line at Ak Plaka Light off the north east coast of the Greek Island of Limnos.

At this stage once they’ve crossed the finish line, the vessels will be making their way under engine into the Sea of Marmara.

With generally southerly winds, the fleet made good progress and it was the lighter Class C and D vessels who claimed the podium positions overall on corrected time with Mythos (pictured above), Greece (Class C) first overall as well as first in Class C, Akela, Russia, first in Class D and second overall, and Adonis, Greece third overall and second in Class D.

Bodrum, Turkey was first in Class B followed by Tecla, Netherlands, and Aquarelle, France third.

In Class A Dar Mlodziezy, Poland managed to squeeze a win over Mir in Class A although Mir crossed the finish line ahead by just two and a half minutes on the water. Kaliakra, Bulgaria took third.

A once daily position report will be published on the website fleet tracking each morning as the fleet sails up to the start of second leg of the race to Varna which begins on 18 May.
