Garibaldi Tall Ships Regatta – Race Update 3

April 13, 2010

At the 1700 hrs GMT report, the Class B vessel Pandora (Italy) is in the lead overall on corrected time with the Class A Astrid (Netherlands) in second place overall, and the Class B Tecla (Netherlands) in third place.

Astrid leads the Class A vessels with Oosterschelde (Netherlands) in second place and Tenacious (UK) in third.

Behind Pandora in Class B is Tecla with Far Barcelona (Spain) in third.

Woj (Austria) continues to lead the Class C/D vessels with Akela (Spain) in second place and Maybe (UK) in third.

On the water, Hansa (Spain) remains in the lead with just 191 miles to go to the finish line with Orsa Maggiore, Pamadica and Akela all close and chasing. The bad news is that the wind has almost completely died and the fleet are now experiencing flat calm seas. The outlook, however, is better, with the winds forecast to pick up overnight with easterly 6-12 knots, backing to northerlies at around midnight.

Palinuro (Italy) has retired from the race and is continuing under engine to Trapani.

Pogoria (Poland), pictured, is currently lying if 5th place in Class A.
