THALASSA was originally built in 1980 in Harlingen, Holland, but after she sank in 1985 was bought by Arnold Hilkema and Jacob Dan who totally rebuilt and refitted her. She was relaunched in 1995. 2004 was the first year she competed in The Tall Ships Races.
The ship was built in the Netherlands in 1958 as ocean going fishing vessel. She was fishing for years in the North Atlantic. Merisissi III is owned and run by the Sea Scout Troop from Turku in Finland. She has participated in the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Races in 1988, 1992, 1996 and 2000 replacing the wooden Merisissi III which took part in the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race in 1972.
The ‘Merrilyn’ is a 65ft schooner with special features to assist those with disabilities and is operated by the Rona Sailing Project as a sail training vessel.
The organisation which is based in Ockero – Sweden operates both Astrid Finne and Hawila. Astrid Finne is crewed with scouts and young Swedish students. The design is a ‘Colin Archer’.
