Closely Fought Race To Stavanger

July 26, 2011

The fleet is streaming across the North Sea generally following the rhumb line but German vessel Alexander von Humboldt (AVH) has taken a flyer and gone north of the fleet, currently leading Class A. However, Norwegian Class B vessel, Wyvern, has taken-up the lead overall on corrected time.

The fight in Class A is far from over with AVH being closely stalked by the three Norwegian vessels Statsraad Lehmkuhl, Sorlandet and Christian Radich.

Dutch Class A vessel, Wylde Swan is leading on the water heading for line honours with less than 90miles to go to the finish which would be a first for the Captain and ship.

In Class C, Black Diamond of Durham is currently leading with St Iv with Alba Endeavour and Alba Explorer close behind.

In the Spinnaker Class D, Akela of Russia is ahead with the military ships Urania and Barbara V following in her wake.

The strong northerly winds of the start are now subsiding and the sea is getting calmer which the young trainees will be thankful for!
