Sail Training International, the organisation behind The
Tall Ships Races 2011 series, officially announced the results of Race One at a
prize giving ceremony in Greenock today. It was Norwegian vessel Christian Radich who
took first in class and first overall making a crew of 115 captained by Clas
Jagdum, extremely happy.
The prize giving ceremony followed a vibrant and colourful
crew parade of 1800 trainees from 14 different countries through the streets of Greenock ending at the Town Hall.
Polish vessel Dar Szczecina scooped the
prize for ‘Best Crew in the Crew Parade.’
Polish crew have also been found regularly entertaining the Greenock
crowds throughout the weekend with a host of juggling and dancing acts with the
intention of welcoming people to the city of Szczecin, Poland, in 2013.
All class prizes have been donated by the host ports of The
Tall Ships Races 2011: Waterford, Greenock, Lerwick, Stavanger and Halmstad.
Race Director of Sail Training International, Paul Bishop,
commented: “On behalf of The Tall Ships Races 2011 Race Committee, I would like to congratulate
everyone who took part in Race One from Waterford to Greenock. It was a challenging and tactical race with
the Captains of Christian Radich, Tecla, Black Diamond of Durham and Rona II all
earning a very deserved first in class.”
